LTA Officials Licence Scheme

What is the LTA Officials Licence Scheme?

The LTA Officials Licence Scheme is run by the LTA and grants accreditation to officials who meet the LTA’s required standards. These standards include a commitment to continuous personal development and conduct and possession of a satisfactory DBS disclosure. The scheme is an easy way for parents, players and clubs to identify those officials who meet these standards.

ABTO will continue to support the LTA in the selection, recruitment and training of tennis officials and be responsible for the grading of all tennis officials who are members of the LTA Officials Licensing Scheme.

The benefits of joining

There are a wide range of benefits for those who achieve an LTA Official’s Licence.

Licensed Officials will benefit from promotion of this standard to parents, players and clubs. Licensed Officials will also have the opportunity to apply for selections for LTA staged competitions. Following the introduction of the LTA Officials Licence Scheme, as a minimum, individuals will be required to be Licensed Officials in order to officiate at Grade 5 and above approved competitions.

How do I join?

Officials are required to have completed and passed either an LTA Basic Referee course or Basic Line Umpire course before the can join.

Existing Officials can apply to become Licensed by logging into their Member's area of the website.  Login here with your username and password.

Hover over 'Member's access your Area' and select 'Officals' from the dropdown menu which will take you into the Officials area.

Choosing the 'Licence' tab will take you to the application page. Officials will be able to click 'Apply' if they meet both the grade/qualification criteria and have a valid LTA DBS check.

DBS

To make your first application for an LTA Official’s Licence, you are required to have a completed DBS (formerly CRB) enhanced disclosure and barred list check that is no more than 12 months old.

For currently accredited Coaches, a satisfactory (to the LTA) DBS (formerly CRB) enhanced disclosure is required at the time of registration, issued within the last 3 years.

If you need to complete a DBS (formerly CRB) before getting licensed you can apply for a check online on the DBS page

Continuous Personal Development

Once you become a member of the scheme, you will be required to comply with the minimum annual CPD requirement of 8 credits to retain your Licence. In future, it may become a requirement that certain CPD must be completed prior to an official being able to apply to become a member of the scheme.

Cost

The LTA Official’s Licence will cost £25 per annum and can be applied for and paid online by logging in to your members area on the LTA website from the middle of March 2013 onwards.
