David Phillipson, Lucy Shuker and Antony Cotterill all contest doubles finals at the ITF 1 Series Swiss Open after Phillipson and Shuker bowed out of the men’s and women’s singles in the quarter-finals.

After a first round bye, third seeds Phillipson and Stefan Olsson of Sweden began their men’s doubles campaign with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Adam Kellerman of Australia and Cedric Mocellin of Franc. They went on to upset the second seeds, Evans Maripa of South Africa and Japan’s Takashi Sanada 6-2, 7-6(3) in their semi-final and will now play top seeds Joachim Gerard of Belgium and Stephane Houdet of France in the title decider.

After starting the men’s singles as eighth seed, Phillipson beat Jean-Pierre Limborg of France 6-3, 6-0 and Thailand’s Banjob Suwan 6-0, 6-2 to reach the last eight. Phillipson then made an encouraging start against his doubles partner, but world No. 9 Olsson eventually advances to the semi-finals 7-5, 6-1.

Top seeds Shuker and Germany’s Sabine Ellerbrock also had a bye into the quarter-finals of the women’s doubles before beating Australia’s Sarah Calati and Austria’s Margit Fink. There was another comfortable win in the semi-finals as Shuker and Ellerbrock eased past Russia’s Ludmila Bubnov and Polina Shakirova 6-1, 6-1. They face second seeds Katharina Kruger of Germany and Kgothatso Montjane of South Africa in the final.

Shuker started her singles challenge with a confident 6-0, 6-0 win over Switzerland’s Karin Suter-Erath, but Dutch fifth seed Michaela Spaanstra proved strongest in their quarter-final, beating Shuker 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

Cotterill and Dylan Alcott of Australia have dropped only three games en route to the quad doubles final, the second seeds beating French duo Thomas Huguenin and Sebastien Jance 6-2, 6-1 and Alcberto Corradi of Italy and Mika Ishikawa of Canada 6-0, 6-0. Cotterill and Alcott play American top seeds Nick Taylor and David Wagner in the final.

Their doubles semi-final victory provided Cotterill with some recompense for his first round quad singles loss to Corradi as the Italian progressed 6-3, 6-0.
