Cardiff Metropolitan University have been crowned this year's National Premier League Tennis champions, becoming the first side from Wales, and the first side based out of a University to win the event.
The team, consisting of Chris Lewis and Jordan Hayler who both coach at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and professional player Marcus Willis who is ranked 390 in the world, defeated defending champions Gosling in the final 3 -1. With the match locked at 1-1 after the first two rounds, Cardiff Metropolitan University were too strong for Gosling winning the following two matches to secure victory.
The National Premier League event is the only domestic club team event to run through the winter season in the UK and is a doubles only event. Over 100 teams around the country enter the group stages and compete in regional divisions to qualify for the finals.
Cardiff Metropolitan University finished top of the South West Group, with Cardiff Metropolitan University students James Rowe, James Haywardd-Browne, Wyn Lewis, Mikey Cox and Mike Castle and Cardiff Metropolitan University Academy players, Matt Story, Ricky Hernandez-Tong, Callum Findlay and Matt Lloyd all taking part during the qualifying process.
