No less than 8 Berkshire teams were in action over the Bank Holiday week-end. This meant a lot of chasing round by Hayley Randall to get coaches to look after them, so grateful thanks to Hayley herself, Steve Wood, Jason Jokhoo, Megan Barrett, Sam Scowen and Ilona Sudak.
Most successful were the girls 14u at Sutton who finished runners up to the home county Surrey. The Berkshire team led by Sophie Drakeford Lewis won two out of their 3 matches. Sophie won 2 singles as did Megan Forster & Sophie Dargon whilst Alisha Reayer & Clare Pearman both won one singles each.
The boys 14u at Southampton had a tougher time finishing 5th.Their singles victories came from Kerin Bilgin with 2, Callum Rendle 1 and Seb Harris a 3hour plus epic with score 4/6,7/5,6/4 over Oxford’s Cameron Price.
The other 6 teams took part in the east region’s Lionel Cox tournament at Queenswood, Hertfordshire for 12u, 11u & 10u for the first time. They eventually finished 7th out of 10 counties and the event was overall well won by powerful Essex. Berkshire’s best achievement was in fact beating Essex 12u boys by 2 matches to 1.
There was a great spirit amongst our youngsters resplendent in their new t-shirts and hoodies cheering on whichever Berkshire team was playing.
