The club invites interested parties to come forward with a proposal to organise and run the tennis activities within the club. We believe that this will require more than one person and it is important that applicants reflect this in their proposal. We expect the Head Coach to be LTA qualified to Level 3 or above with previous club experience.
The Colchester Officers’ Club is a traditional members club that has offered sport and leisure facilities to the community of for over 100 years. In 2013 the club was completely redeveloped adding 3 new floodlit hard courts and a new clubhouse. At the same time the 3 existing tennis courts and 2 squash courts were completely refurbished. In addition to sport the club also has extensive catering and hospitality facilities.
The club is seeking proposals from experienced coaches who will set out their plans and intentions for coaching programmes across the different types of members and through different age groups. This must include revenue potential for the club from these sessions and how they will be managed.
The proposal must achieve the following:
1. A comprehensive tennis programme that will cater for all standards, this will include:
a. Competition players
b. Club team players
c. Improvers
d. Beginners and social players
e. Links to local schools.
2. Income generation: The club is looking to maximise its potential revenue streams from:
a. Coaching court fees
b. Secondary spend through the club from the use of the bar and catering facilities.
3. New members: The club will be looking for the coaching team to promote membership. This can be done through
a. Converting social members to playing members and single to family etc.
b. Introducing new members to the club by being an active part of the local tennis community.
c. Liaising with the local media to promote the club facilities.
- Self-employed professional status
- Hold an LTA licence at a minimum of Senior Club Coach Level 4 qualification or plan to achieve this within the next 18 months, have liability insurance, First Aid certification and have a current DBS certificate. Ambitious level 3 applicants may also be considered.
- Have a clean driving licence, and be computer literate in Word and Excel.
- Be well organised with good inter personal and communication skills.
- Experience of managing a coaching business and the associated administration.
- Experience of the management of a team of coaches and the development of younger coaches (Leaders/Apprentices).
- Be enthusiastic and motivated.
- Play at a high standard (6.2 or better LTA Rating) and be willing to play in 1st team league matches.
The successful applicant will be expected to (not exhaustive)
- Set up, develop, manage and promote tennis programmes for both Juniors and Adults across abilities, including links to local schools.
- Work closely with the club committee and attend committee meetings providing information, feedback and advice.
- Actively participate in the development of the club.
- Organise and run events to encourage new players and club members’ participation.
- Co-ordinate and support competition opportunities.
- From time to time you will be asked to perform non-tennis related activities to support the club
- Candidates must have knowledge of the LTA processes and keep in touch with all the latest developments within tennis both locally and at a higher level
- Duties at the club will involve delivering lessons to individuals and groups, juniors and adults. Additionally, you will be asked to arrange and supervise social tennis and internal competitions. You will also be required to be involved with the tennis teams, playing and liaising with team captains about team players.
- The club is particularly keen to grow the numbers on the junior programme and supporting the Adult section will be essential.
Proposals should include your experience and coaching/playing ability and preference will be given to coaches who have experience in setting up and managing similar programmes.

3. Candidates getting through to the 3rd stage will be invited to present their proposal to the Club Board of Directors.
