No sooner has the Aegon British Tour finished than the Aegon Summer County Cup begins! July is approving to be a busy month for North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club on the events front.
More great spectator tennis starts on Monday 22nd July without the need to travel far, so go along to North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club and soak up the atmosphere whilst the weather is still good. Free to everyone and all welcome.
The Summer County Cup is one of the oldest tennis events on the domestic calendar with Gloucestershire men winning back in 1895 and Surrey winning the first ladies event in 1899. This event is always played in July and is purely a doubles event played on grass.
There are forty-four competing counties who will be playing at 15 grass venues throughout the country. Group 1 is the premier group with the men’s and ladies’ teams playing at Devonshire Park, Eastbourne with the top counties in this group winning the Championships. North Oxford is one of the other 14 venues being used this year by the Men’s Group 6.
The Counties competing at North Oxford this week are:
A Devon |
B Buckinghamshire
C Staffordshire
D Northamptonshire
E Oxfordshire
F Northumberland
Each county team consists of three doubles pairs and over the five days of the Championships, each county plays every other county in its group. Each match consists of every pair in one team meeting every pair in the other over the best of three tie-break sets, thus making nine rubbers in each match.
The Oxfordshire men’s team consists of:
Shola Adebisi
Joe Cartledge
Joshua Clarke-Dawson
Brad Marriott
Jonny Maskens
Nigel Matthews
