Davis Cup Trophy Comes To Oxfordshire Following Historic Tennis Triumph

The Davis Cup Trophy officially arrives at Oxfordshire’s White Horse Tennis Centre, Abingdon on 26 May as part of a national trophy tour of Great Britain launched by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).
Following Great Britain’s historic win in the 2015 Davis Cup Final, when Team GB hoisted the trophy for the first time in 79 years, the LTA is celebrating this momentous occasion with a Davis Cup Trophy Tour - to thank the tennis community including players, coaches, venues and volunteers who supported the team on its incredible achievement.
It also wants to inspire a new generation to pick up a racket and get involved in tennis.
There are lots of events at the White Horse all day with over 30 Oxfordshire schools taking part in fun tennis matches and touch tennis. The children will also be getting their photographs taken with the magnificent Davis Cup Trophy - which at 3ft 7 inches tall and weighing in at 231lbs is widely considered among the most impressive trophies in sport.
“We want as many people as possible to come to the White Horse and have their picture taken with the Davis Cup,” says Nicky Maskens from Oxfordshire LTA .
“Everyone is welcome – not just tennis fans. We are running lots of events all day and hopefully we can tempt some people to pick up a tennis racket for the first time – or welcome people back to the sport.
“Many of the tennis clubs in Oxfordshire will be there to give advice on where people can play and what classes are available. We want to build on the excitement generated by the Davis Cup victory and inspire a whole new generation of tennis players.”
