Queen Camel TC in South Somerset was celebrating this week as the club was awarded LTA clubmark accreditation. The LTA’s Tennis Development Manager for Somerset and Dorset, James Deem, handed over the clubmark plaque to Marian Davis, QCTC Chairperson, at a presentation ceremony held at the club premises on Saturday 6 November 2010 and attended by committee members, the club’s LTA coaches, Martin Hillier and Tom Selley, and players.
Tennis Clubmark recognises good practice in tennis clubs ensuring a fair and transparent operational structure, delivery of comprehensive tennis programmes for all ages and abilities, and a clear plan of action for long term sustainability and future growth.
On presenting the clubmark plaque, James Deem said: “I would like to congratulate Queen Camel on achieving clubmark accreditation. Marian Davis and the tennis club committee have done a fantastic job pulling together all the evidence required to meet the tennis clubmark criteria and show that they are meeting the quality benchmark set out by Sport England.”
On behalf of Queen Camel tennis club, Marian Davis thanked the LTA and James Deem for their encouragement and guidance, adding: “ With Clubmark accreditation, we can now move forward with the development plans for the club to provide LTA approved facilities and coaching programmes for juniors and adults in our local tennis community. Several new initiatives and improvements are already underway including floodlighting for the two all weather courts, toilet facilities, tennis coaching for local schools, ladies and men’s’ club sessions, and a junior tournament to be staged later this month.”
As part of the LTA’s drive to raise standards of tennis facilities across the country, Queen Camel becomes the 10th tennis club in Somerset, out of 33, to achieve clubmark accreditation and the 3rd of two-court clubs in the county to receive the award.
