People seeking to work with children (U18) or adults at risk in England and Wales are required to undertake an DBS check or if working in Scotland, register with the Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme (PVGS).
A DBS check is a record of all warnings, reprimands, cautions and convictions obtained from local and national police records. Police forces may also choose to disclose soft intelligence that they reasonably consider might be relevant to the role.
The type of DBS check required will depend on the work the individual will be doing. Certain roles (such as Coach Accreditation) are required to have a specific DBS check, please look at our 'List of common roles' document. If a role is not covered in this document, you can use our DBS Eligibility Flowchart or the the DBS eligibility tool to help determine what type of check is required.
