Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester visited the wheelchair tennis test event in the Olympic Park on the first ever day of play at the Eton Manor venue.
The Duchess met many of the staff and volunteers working at the venue and watched Alex Jewitt take on 14-year-old Alfie Hewett on Centre Court after earlier rain delays had delayed the start of play.
The Duchess also met a number of the players taking part, including British No.2 Lucy Shuker, British No.3 David Phillipson and world No.1 Esther Vergeer, who has gone a remarkable 452 matches unbeaten.
Earlier in the day, Sports Minister Hugh Robertson also visited Eton Manor, the only purpose-built venue for the Paralympic Games.
Centre Court can hold a capacity 5,000 crowd and wheelchair tennis tickets sold out within a day of going on sale for both the Games and the test event.
The test event is taking place until Sunday with the public having access on Saturday for the women’s and quad’s bronze and gold medal matches.
