AEGON GB Pro-Series Bournemouth – Men’s & Women’s singles & doubles

Saturday saw the men’s and women’s singles winners crowned at the AEGON GB Pro-Series Bournemouth.

Oli Golding who was playing in his first singles pro-final was up against fellow Brit Andy Fitzpatrick. 18 year-old Golding edged the first set on a tie-break 7-4. An early break in the second meant Fitzpatrick was serving at 3-5 to stay in the match. After a marathon game, the Birmingham player saved five match points, to force Golding to serve out for the match at 5-4. This time Golding was not to be denied, holding serve for a 7-6(4), 6-4 victory, and in the process gain his first professional title.

In the women’s singles Jade Windley took the title with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over top seed Naomi Broady to secure her first singles title since 2009.

Lisa Whybourn who had won through to the women's singles semi-finals in Turkey lost out to second seed Dalila Jakupovic (SLO) 6-4, 7-5.

In the women's singles, Carreras had won through to the semi-finals before seeing a 6-3, 6-2 defeat to top seed Anastasia Yakimova (BLR). In the doubles the Briton had reached the final with partner Ximena Hermoso (MEX) but the second seeded duo lost to top seeds Eugeniya Pashkova (RUS) & Isabella Shinikova (BUL) 6-1, 6-2.

AEGON British Tour, Leeds – Men’s & Women’s singles

The AEGON British Tour Leeds wrapped up over the weekend seeing Jathan Malik and Katy Dunne crowned as the men’s and women’s singles winners.

In the men’s draw, third seed Jathan Malik took the title after defeating top seed Harry Meehan in a tense three set final. After losing the opening set in a tie-break, Meehan evened by taking the second only to see the third fought out in another tie-break. Malik battled past the top seed, ultimately taking the match and the title 7-6(7), 3-6, 7-6(3).

In comparison, the women’s draw saw a straightforward final. Top seed Katy Dunne defeated second seed Nicole Peterson 6-0, 6-1 for the women’s singles title. In form Dunne did not drop a set all week and only conceded six games.

JUNIORS - ITF

Grade 1, France – Boys’ & girls’ singles

Luke Bambridge reached the singles semi-finals in France before being defeated by Jeroen Vanneste (BEL) 7-5, 6-4. The seventh seeded Briton had won into the last four after beating fourth seed Borna Coric (CRO) 6-3, 6-3.

In the girls’ singles Eleanor Dean reached the semi-finals before seeing defeat at the hands of the overall winner of the tournament. The tenth seeded Briton faced seventh seeded Belinda Bencic from Switzerland but was defeated 6-3, 6-2.

Grade 2, Spain – Boys’ singles

Evan Hoyt has finished as runner-up in Spain. Hoyt played Alexander Vasilenko (RUS) in the final but was defeated 7-6(2), 6-4.

Grade 3, Ukraine – Boys’ doubles

Lewis Roskilly & Alexander Sendegeya have come out top in the Ukraine, claiming the boys’ doubles title. In the final the un-seeded pair faced second seeds Tomas Papik (CZE) & Julian Zlobinsky (USA) and won the match 6-4, 6-2.

Grade 3, Bulgaria – Boys’ singles & doubles

Sixth seed Christopher Pearce lost out 6-3, 6-4 at the quarter-finals stages in Bulgaria to Piotr Lomacki. Pearce was also in action in the boys’ doubles with Billy Harris. The pair who were seeded second, finished as runners-up after being defeated by Swedish top seeds Filip Bergevi & Gustav Hansson in the final.

Tennis Europe Category 2, Turkey – Boys’ singles

Fourth seed Alexis Canter reached the quarter-finals in Turkey where he was defeated by Cagatay Sami Soke (TUR) 6-4, 6-4.

Tennis Europe Category 1, Romania – Boys’ singles & doubles

Top seed Jay Clarke has taken the title in Romania after defeating compatriot Sam Ferguson 6-7(3), 7-6(2), 6-4. There was further British success in the doubles as second seeds Samuel Ferguson & Robert Leck defeated top seeds Jay Clarke and partner Mikael Yemer (SWE) 6-3, 6-4.

Tennis Europe Category 2, Czech Republic – Boys’ doubles

Christopher Reynolds reached the semi–final stages of the boys’ doubles with partner Marco Prochazka (AUT) before being defeated by top seeds Lazdins & Ursu 6-3, 6-2.

Tennis Europe Category 3, Romania – Girls’ singles & doubles

In the girls’ singles, Anastasia Mikheeva has lost to top seed Marija Curnic (HRV) 6-2, 6-2 in the last four. Olivia Tomkins defeated Georgina Axon to seal her place in the final and finished as runner-up after a 6-4, 7-6(2) defeat against Marija Curnic. The all British girls’ doubles final saw second seeds Georgina Axon & Katie Swan beat top seeds Anastasia Mikheeva & Olivia Tomkins 6-1, 6-1.

Tennis Europe Category 3, France – Boys’ & Girls singles & doubles

In the girls’ singles, Claudia Hallsworth has lost out to Francesca Runi 6-4, 7-6(4) in the quarter-finals. Hallsworth was also competing in the girls’ doubles with Alice Thane and the pair finished as runners-up after being beaten by French pairing Aubrion & Jovanovic. In the boys’ doubles Harry Butler & George Hutchings had teamed together but were defeated in the semi-finals.

Tennis Europe 11U Boys’ & Girls singles

Jack Draper has won the boys’ singles title in Bressuire, France. In a final that was decided in three sets, Draper was up against second seed and home favourite Adrien Gobat. After losing the opening set, the un-seeded Briton fought back to take the next two to ultimately win the match and the title 5-7, 6-2, 7-5. In the girls’ singles Lauren Armstrong was also in action. Armstrong reached the semi-finals before being defeated by Lena Delfosse (BEL).

WHEELCHAIR TENNIS

ACSA Johannesburg Open, ITF 2

Antony Cotterill and Adam Field put up a determined effort in their bid to avenge their singles losses to Italian's Marco Innocenti and Giuseppe Polidori, but ultimately they bowed out of the quad doubles in the semi-finals on the third day of play. Top seeds Innocenti and Polidori beat the British duo 6-3, 6-4 and go on to face the second seeds, American Marc McLean and Lucas Sithole of South Africa, in the final.
