Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Gloucester, The Honorary President of the LTA today attended the LTA’s 2012 AGM at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.
Her Royal Highness presented meritorious service awards to a number of volunteers in recognition of their outstanding contribution to tennis. The 2012 award winners were: Keith Dewick, Buckinghamshire; Gavin Masterton, Hertfordshire; Nick Greenwood, Sussex; John Poxon, Nottinghamshire; John Ramsbottom, Yorkshire and Maureen Laffey nominated by the Association of British Tennis Officials. Gavin, Keith and Maureen attended the AGM to receive their awards from Her Royal Highness in person.

In his address, LTA President, Peter Bretherton hailed 2012 “as a truly remarkable sporting year” reflecting on how great performances on court from British players like Andy Murray, Jonny Marray, Laura Robson and Heather Watson, can inspire fans to pick up a racket and take to the court.
Some highlights included: Olympic and Paralympic medals won at London 2012; Andy Murray’s first Grand Slam victory; Jonny Marray winning Wimbledon’s Men’s doubles with Freddie Nielsen and becoming LTA Fair Play ambassador; allplay tennis park in Clapham Common – a free tennis festival attended by over 10,000 people; recent Active People Survey Results which saw an increase in adults playing tennis weekly up by almost 70,000 from 2011 and the appointment of David Gregson as the first Independent Chair of the LTA following approval by the LTA Council earlier today.
LTA President, Peter Bretherton and Deputy President, Cathie Sabin were both re-elected to their roles for another year and the Directors’ report and financial documents for the Lawn Tennis Association Group for the previous financial year were received and adopted.
The 2012 British Tennis Annual and LTA Group Finance and Governance Report were officially released at the AGM and are available online. The Annual is designed to give people an insight into what has been going on in British tennis in the last year to help grow and sustain the sport.
