British Tennis Youth Group applicants come to NTC

40 applicants vying for a place on the British Tennis Youth Group came to the home of British Tennis on Thursday, at the National Tennis Centre, London.

The candidates, all aged between 16 -25, came to the NTC to take part in an assessment day to try and gain selection into the group, which will play a key role in getting more young people playing tennis.

The group, which will be announced shortly, will work with the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and the Tennis Foundation on the development of new offers and campaigns aimed at young people.

Members of the group will represent the interests of the young people in the sport at a national level, and will also decide which ideas and projects get financial support through a Youth Legacy Fund.

The candidates present at the assessment day were selected from over one hundred applicants and their required tasks centred on teamwork, communication and decision making, sparking many interesting ideas from a dynamic and creative group of individuals.

Jenny Box, LTA Volunteer Engagement Manager, said afterwards: "It was a great assessment day and it was brilliant to see such energy, ideas and enthusiasm from very talented young candidates, who all performed excellently.

"We’re confident the future of British tennis is in safe hands and the chosen British Tennis Youth Group will undoubtedly do a fantastic job in engaging with more young people to encourage them to get involved in tennis."

Cathie Sabin, Deputy President of the LTA, added: "The day for me enforced the feeling that young people do want to volunteer - we just need to ask them. Their enthusiasm was great to see and I am really looking forward to listening to them and working with them in the future."
