August 2012 - Andy Murray

Andy Murray - AEGON Player of the Month

Andy Murray has won the AEGON Player of the Month Award for August after his gold and silver medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games at Wimbledon.

The British No.1 won six men's singles matches across the week-long event, dropping just one set in the process, to take gold for Team GB and make Olympic history.

In his first four matches Murray defeated Wawrinka, Nieminen, Baghdatis and Almagro to set up a semi-final against Novak Djokovic, the world No.2.

A commanding performance at the latter stages of both sets saw Murray win 7-5, 7-5 to reach the final and set up a repeat of The Championships, Wimbledon, final less than a month previously, against Roger Federer.

In an outstanding display the Brit cruised through, winning in a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 scoreline to claim his first every medal at an Olympic Games.

Murray also teamed up with Laura Robson to win three matches in the mixed doubles event before only narrowly losing the final and a chance to secure a second gold.
