Heather Watson has received the AEGON Player of the Month award after her recent run of success at The Championships, Wimbledon and reaching a WTA singles ranking career high of 79.
Making her debut at Wimbledon, the 20 year-old was unphased as she blasted her way through her Czech opponent Iveta Benesova in an hour and a half with a 6-2, 6-1 win to set up a round two meeting with Jamie Hampton of USA.
Watson's fine run at then continued she beat the American in straight sets to become the first British women to reach the third round of Wimbledon since Elena Baltacha in 2002.
Speaking after her 6-1, 6-4 win, Guernsey born Watson said: "I always knew I could play this well, I knew I could get far in these tournaments but it's different playing like that in practice than bringing it onto the match court at big occasions with pressure.
"So I'm just pleased that it's finally clicking for me. As soon as that last point was over it's like an explosion of happiness. I just love when the crowd is so loud at the end, it's an amazing feeling. That's why I play tennis, is for those moments."
In round three, Watson took on Polish world No.3 Agnieszka Radwanska. However Radwanska proved too much of a match for the young Briton, taking the win 6-0, 6-2 after one hour of play.
