Heather Watson has won the Aegon Player of the Month award for May after winning the Prague Open and the second round of the French Open.
The 22 year-old beat Hungary’s Timea Babos 7-6, 6-3 in the Prague Open semi-finals and then went on to beat Slovakia’s Anna Schmiedlova, the world No.66, 7-6, 6-0 in the final later that same day.
As well as a $100,000 prize fund the title saw the British No.2 break back into the world top 100 and claim her second International Tennis Federation title of the year.
Watson continued this momentum into the French Open as she came through qualifying to reach the main draw. Watson defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3, 6-4 in round one before falling to No.4 Simona Halep in the second round.
