Andy Murray defeats Roger Federer to reach the Australian Open final.
British No.1 Murray overcame the Swiss world No.2 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-2 in four hours on Rod Laver Arena to face world No.1 Novak Djokovic in Sunday’s final.
Murray, 25, looked the more dominant player for the majority of the match, controlling points well on his serve, only for Federer to dictate the two tie-breaks of the match in sets two and four.
Murray, who came back from 4-1 down in the fourth set to lead 6-5 and serve for the match, was denied by 31 year-old Federer who forced the match into a fifth.
Scintillating hitting from Murray saw him take the early break in the fifth; a hold gave him a comfortable 3-0 lead. In the final game Federer sent a forehand long and Murray secured the win.
Murray plays Djokovic on Sunday at 8.30am, British time.
