Dom Inglot knocks Bryan Brothers out of Australian Open!

Dom Inglot caused one of the biggest upsets of the Australian Open so far by sending No.1 seeds and 16-time Grand Slam champions the Bryan Brothers crashing out.

Inglot and Romanian partner Florin Mergea, teaming up for only their seventh tournament together, recovered from 4-1 down in the first set to take it on a tie-break.

Bob and Mike Bryan have lifted the men’s doubles trophy at Melbourne Park six times but they could not find a way back into the match and lost the second set 6-3.

Inglot is now through to his third Grand Slam quarter-final and will face No.6 seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau.

After tasting victory over the Americans for the first time, Inglot said: “It's a big boost. This is the kind of place you want to do it, on a big court like Hisense Arena.

“The crowd was fantastic. The Bryans come in and the announcer gives all this talk about how they've won so many matches and so many tournaments.

“'As a player the Bryans are the one team who you don't want to be near in the draw, you don't really want to play them. They know how to put pressure on.”

Jamie Murray will not be joining Inglot in the last eight though as he and John Peers suffered a three set defeat to Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo.

The duo edged the first set on a tie-break but their No.4 seed opponents fought back to take the next two sets and win the match 6-7(8), 6-2, 6-4.

Juniors:

Katie Swan enjoyed double success on Day 8 of the Australian Open by winning both her singles and doubles matches.

Swan first progressed to Round 3 of the singles competition by knocking out Jessica Ho 6-2, 6-0 and faces a tough assignment next against No.1 seed Shilin Xu from China.
