Kyle Edmund has joined Andy Murray and James Ward in the main draw of the Australian Open after successfully qualifying for the event on his debut.
The youngster prevailed a 6-7(3), 6-4, 9-7 winner after an epic battle with Australian Dane Propoggia who was cheered on by a partisan home crowd.
Edmund said afterwards: "Everyone's desperate to qualify so winning three matches against tough players definitely gives me confidence going into the main draw."
It was not to be for fellow Brit Liam Broady who, playing on the adjacent court, went down 7-5, 6-3 to experienced American Michael Russell.
But after his positive start to the year, Liam said: "I just lost a bit of rhythm and he's a very smart, very experienced player, and it showed today.
"It's been a fantastic trip - it obviously exceeded expectations of probably most people apart from my own little group."
