Gordon Reid has reached a Super Series final for the first time in his career after defeating world No.4 Ronald Vink at the British Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships today.
The British No.1 looked the strongest player from the start and wrapped up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over the Dutchman in front of a large home crowd at Nottingham Tennis Centre.
Reid, who had never even reached a Super Series semi-final before Thursday's win over Joachim Gerard, will now face world No.3 Shingo Kunieda in the final tomorrow.
The Japanese former world No.1 made quick work of his semi-final match against Frenchman Michael Jeremiasz to win 6-1, 6-1.
"I am so happy with that result, I've only ever beaten Ronald once before in 11 attempts and I knew I could do it again but to do it here was fantastic and just ahead of the Paralympics too," said 20-year-old Reid.
"Tomorrow's game will be a tough match, I haven't yet beaten Shingo but I am feeling confident after my performances this week and I'm excited to be in the final."
Meanwhile, Noam Gershony won the quad singles title at the British Open for the first time as he stayed solid to get the better of Brit Jamie Burdekin in a re-match of the French Open Super Series earlier this year.
World No.3 Gershony made it four out of four career wins over Burdekin as he won 6-3, 6-2 in hot conditions on Centre Court.
"I'm obviously disappointed to lose but Noam was the better player today and he deserved the win," said Burdekin.
"It's been a great tournament for me, I'm feeling confident with my play and it has been a really good boost beating the world No.1 David Wagner. I now have six more weeks to prepare before the Paralympic Games and there is more work to be done but it's a very exciting time."
But there was some success for Burdekin as he teamed up with Andy Lapthorne in the quad doubles event and the pair reached tomorrow's final courtesy of a 6-1, 7-6(5) win over Anders Hard and Lucas Sithole.
Later in the day Esther Vergeer picked up her twelfth British Open women's singles title as she defeated Dutch compatriot and world No.2 Aniek van Koot 6-2, 6-0.
That makes it 465 singles matches unbeaten for the World No.1 as she goes into the London 2012 Paralympic Games looking for her fourth singles gold medal.
