Andy Murray & Colin Fleming defeated Ivan Dodig & Mate Pavic in the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group Play Off against Croatia on Saturday to keep Great Britain’s hopes alive of winning the best of five rubber tie.
The Aegon GB Davis Cup Team’s doubles duo Murray & Fleming came through 6-3, 6-2, 6-7(6), 6-1 in two hours and 41 minutes on the red clay in Umag, Croatia to go into the third day of play with the lead.
GB need one win to return to the World Group for the first time since 2008.
After the match Murray told British Eurosport: "Colin played exceptionally well, bar a couple of points in the third set, and we dominated the majority of it. It definitely helps [playing Dodig today]. You get a feel for the return and I returned his serve fairly well today. I felt I got a pretty good read of it which will hopefully help tomorrow."
Fleming added: "His [Murray] returns are phenomenal. He's a great player. He's able to figure things out during the match, knows when momentum is swinging, and it's great to have him in the team."
Captain Leon Smith reflected: "The win today was really important. On clay it was definitely the best option. Going into tomorrow it now gives us two cracks at it. I’m very confident Andy can come through and hopefully get us back into the World Group for the first time since 2008."
In the reverse singles on Sunday Murray plays Dodig before Dan Evans takes on Borna Coric.
