Kyle Edmund defeated in boys’ French Open singles but progresses in doubles

Kyle Edmund’s run in the junior singles event came to an end on Thursday at Roland Garros after a three set defeat by Alexander Zverev.

Edmund, who had reached the quarter-finals of the boys’ singles, fell to the German fourth seed 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 in one hour and 49 minutes.

While Edmund’s singles campaign ended, the Briton saw success in the boys’ doubles with Portuguese partner Frederico Ferreira Silva. The third seeded duo, who also claimed the 2012 boys’ US Open doubles title together,  have reached the semi-finals and play French pair Benjamin Bonzi (FRA) Quentin Halys next.

Gordon Reid’s bid to reach his second final of the week at Roland Garros came to an end on Thursday when he bowed out of the men’s singles to world No.2 and defending champion Stephane Houdet of France

Reid’s first two career wins over the 2012 ITF World Champion have come this season, most recently on clay in Rome last month, and Reid matched Houdet for the first four games of their semi-final before the second seed broke Reid’s serve to move 3-2 ahead. With Reid 5-3 down and serving to stay in the first set the British No. 1 and world No. 6 came from 0-40 down to 30-40, but Houdet finally clinched the point he needed to wrap up the set.

Reid came from 4-1 down in the second set to draw level with Houdet at 4-4, but Houdet secured one last break to close out a 6-4, 6-4 victory.

Second seeds Reid and Ronald Vink will play top seeds Stephane Houdet and Shingo Kunieda, the 2010 Roland Garros champions, in tomorrow's men's doubles final.
