The US Open champion Andy Murray and French Open semi-finalist Jo Wilfried Tsonga could meet in the last four of the Aegon Championships, after the singles draw was made for the event that starts at The Queen’s Club on Monday.
Murray and Tsonga clashed in a classic Aegon Championships final two years ago, which Murray won from a set down. To get to the semi-finals, Murray will have to hit the ground running after being drawn to face the winner of Nicolas Mahut and American Rhyne Williams in the second round. A year ago, Murray went down to Mahut 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6 (1), also at the second round stage. The two-time champion and top seed has a bye in the first round.
If Murray can win his way through his opening match, he could have to face French serve-and-volley specialist Michael Llodra in round three, and possibly Alex Dolgopolov, Bernard Tomic or Lukas Rosol in the quarter-finals.
In the other half of the draw, second seed Tomas Berdych starts against either Rogerio Dutra Silva or Thiemo De Bakker in the second round. He could face defending champion Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals, and Juan Martin del Potro in the final four.
One of the matches of the tournament could take place in the second round, if Grigor Dimitrov and four-time champion Lleyton Hewitt both win their openers. They are scheduled to clash in round two.
British wild card Dan Evans has been drawn against Argentine player Guido Pella, while 18-year-old Kyle Edmund starts against Grega Zemlja of Slovenia and Edward Corrie meets Sergiy Stakhovskiy. Edmund and Corrie could meet in round two.
