Evans falls to Anderson
Dan Evans put in a strong performance, but unfortunately lost out in his second round match with Kevin Anderson in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. The British no. 2 had few opportunities against the South African, with only one break point in the first set.
In his first return to the Queen's Club since 2012, the big-serving world no. 18 broke Evans in his first service game, going on to take the first set 6-2. The seventh seed broke again in the sixth game of the second set before both players held serve, with the big south african holding on for the win.
Evan's felt Anderson's serve was a big factor in the result: 'I didn't really get a chance to play tennis really. Today wasn't a nice feeling. No continuity on the court, no rhythm.'
9th seed downed
Whilst he made it to the Final on his last two visits to the Queen's Club, it wasn't to be third time lucky for world no. 26 Marin Cilic, losing in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 to Australian Marinko Matosevic. The world no. 60 impressed with his powerful hitting to defeat last year's finalist, winning 82% of his first serve points and capitalising on Cilic's failure to take break point opportunities.
Ward knocked out by Dimitrov
Following on from his straight set win against Blaz Rola, British no. 3 James Ward was unlucky to lose out to the current world no. 13 Grigor Dimitrov 7-5, 6-3
With 2 titles to his name already this year, the Bulgarian is looking to add to his tally, and started well, edging a close first set. Breaks were exchanged in the second, before Dimitrov broke again and served out the match.
