Ward makes strong start

Opening the Tournament, and making his 7th appearance at the Queen's Club, James Ward got his grass court season off to a great start with a 7-5, 6-4 win against Blaz Rola.

It was the second time the pair had met in the last three weeks, with the world No. 155 again beating the world No. 97 after his previous win in the final round of Qualifying at Roland Garros. The British No. 3 came out of the blocks strong, breaking Rola in the first game of the match before closing it out 6-4 in the second.

Looking ahead to his Round 2 match against world No. 13, Grigor Dimitrov, Ward was upbeat: 'I think I'm playing a lot better, a lot more consistent. With the opportunities the next few weeks, hopefully I'll keep moving forward.

Evans fights through

Dan Evans, the British No. 2, took on the world No. 56 Jurgen Melzer in their first ever ATP World Tour meeting.

Evans started strongly, winning the first set 6-3, but lost a tight second set 7-6(7) on a tiebreak. The final set stayed on serve all the way to the twelve game, before Evans took a tiebreak of his own 7-6(7) to close out the game.

Evans will face world No. 18 Kevin Anderson on Center Court Tuesday, and is hopeful of his chances: 'It will be a tough match, but I'll just play my game and see what happens. I'm looking forward to playing him, to be honest.'

Cox falls to Mannarino

In a closely-fought contest, British No. 4 Dan Cox fell to world No. 83 Adrian Mannarino 7-5, 6-2.

Cox started well and took a 3-1 lead, but lost the first set 7-5. Mannarino started the second set as he finished the first and took a commanding lead before closing it out 6-2. He will play the winner of the Benneteau/Estrella Burgos match in the second round.

Hewitt finds his form

World No. 43 Lleyton Hewitt kicked off his fifteen appearance at Queens with a routine straight sets win over the spanish world No. 99 Daniel Gimeno-Traver. Hewitt took the first set 6-3, and quickly broke Gimeno-Traver in the second, beating the spaniard in 68 minutes.

Hewitt was happy with his form, highlighting the fact he has been able to get some solid practice in: 'I just felt pretty sharp out there. I have been hitting the ball really well in practice.  It didn't take me long at all to get straight on the grass and felt comfortable, which is good.'

Murray to face Mathieu

Andy Murray will face world No. 92 Paul-Henri Mathieu in the second round. In the first game on Court 9 this morning, Mathieu defeated Aljaz Bedene 7-6(7), 6-4. Murray leads their head to head record 5-0, haven beaten him 7-5, 6-3 in their last outing in 2012 (Paris).
