Dom Inglot and Treat Huey: Doubles Champions

After Thursday's weather saw their match delayed, Dom Inglot and his Filipino partner Treat Huey saw off the threat of Ross Hutchins and Colin Fleming to secure their place in the 2014 Aegon International doubles final with a tightly contested 7-6(2), 6-3 victory. It was a quick turn around for the pair, and they were soon back out on court to take on the No.1 seed pairing of Alexander Peya and Bruno Soares.

In an incredibly close match, both pairs had chances but were unable to convert, Inglot and Huey quickest to strike and take the first set 7-5. Peya and Soares were able to fight back however, and took the second set by the same score to send the game into a championship tiebreak.

In a tie-break filled with suspense, the British/Filipino pair had several chances to open up leads, but were pulled back by the No.1 seeds. Eventually, a huge serve from Inglot forced a forehand error from their opponents, with Inglot and Huey seeing out the match for their third doubles title together.

Feliciano Lopez reaches Aegon International final

Feliciano Lopez has reached the Aegon International final for a second consecutive year after defeating American Sam Querrey in straight sets.

The Spaniard, who lifted the men’s singles trophy 12 months ago in Eastbourne, came past the big serving American 6-4, 7-6(4) in one hour and 18 minutes.

World No.77 Querrey, looked the fresher of the two as they took to the court in Friday’s afternoon sun, but Lopez fought his way to a 6-4 first set, winning an incredible 94% of his first serves.

The second set was another close affair, Querrey serving ten aces and forcing a tense tie-break. However it was the lefthander who held his nerve, taking the tie-break 7-4 with an ace.

In Saturday’s final, Lopez takes on No.1 seed Richard Gasquet.

Angelique Kerber beats Caroline Wozniacki

In a roller coaster match on centre court, Angelique Kerber squeezed past Caroline Wozniacki 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-3 to secure her place in the 2014 final. In a match littered with opportunities for both players, thirty break points in total, the Dane took the first set in routine fashion before the German fought back to take the second with a dominating tie break performance.

Both players struggled to hold serve in the third with six breaks exchanged, Wozniacki struggling with her first serve, eventually giving Kerber the advantage. Wozniacki broke the impressive German at 5-2 down, but was unable to hold serve once more with Kerber breaking straight back to take the match and reach her second Aegon International final.

Richard Gasquet into final

The No.1 seed Richard Gasquet continued his campaign for a first trophy with a 6-4, 6-2 win over the world No.49 Denis Istomin. The first set saw no break of serve until the tenth game, the world No.14 finally breaking Istomin on his third break point opportunity and taking the set.

The Uzbekistani failed to capitalise on two break points in the first game of the second set, and from there it was all Gasquet. The Frenchman broke Istomin three times on the way to taking the second, emphatically breaking him in the last game to earn his place in the final.

Heather Watson loses out to Madison Keys

Madison Keys reached the women's final in straight sets against Heather Watson, beating the British No.1 6-3, 6-1 to make her first ever WTA tour final.

A close first set saw the American capitalise on her powerful serve, winning almost 80% of her first serve points compared to Watson's 65%. The world No.47 didn't let up in the second set either, at one point firing down a 123mph serve on her way to breaking Watson three times and reach her first career final. She will face Angelique Kerber, who is into her second final of the year after her morning win. The two have met twice before, with Kerber winning both encounters.

For Watson, it is a disappointing end to a positive week, but she now looks ahead to the All England club and a first round tie against world No.52 Ajla Tomljanovic.
