University Tennis Tour comes to Nottingham

Nottingham University played host to the University Tour Grade 3 this weekend and the event was a great success with a dry and sunny weekend in the East Midlands.

The event was a Men’s draw of 16 and there were university representatives from Exeter (who win the award for traveling the furthest), Leicester, Leeds and Nottingham. The tennis on display was a high standard over the weekend and the eventual winner was James Atkinson, who was the 2nd seed, and beat Dan Moore in the final. The prize for the event was a University ofNottingham hoody which is pretty priceless!

The University Tennis Tour at Nottingham kicked off a busy month for university tennis in March, with a mixture of BUCS team events and further university tennis tour competitions still to come.

Liverpool John Moores University will host the next university tennis tour competition from the 15th-17th March, with the matches being played at Wavertree Sports Park, Liverpool. This is the most northern university tour event for this year so the competition should attract a good number of entries. Find out further details about the competition and enter online now here.

The focus then shifts to the BUCS team tennis leagues, with the Championship finals being played at Leeds Metropolitan University on Wednesday 20th March as part of the inaugural BUCS 'Big Wednesday'. 'Big Wednesday' will see the team finals of 14 sports taking place at one venue on one day, with winners to be decided in Badminton, Basketball, Indoor Cricket, Fencing, Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Netball, Rugby League, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball. The tennis semi-finals are being played on Wednesday 6th March, with Stirling playing Exeter and Durham taking on Bath in the Men's competition, and Exeter playing Durham whilst Bath take on Loughborough in the Ladies competition. These teams will all be keen to try and secure their place in the final to give them a chance of securing gold at Leeds. Find further information on the BUCS 'Big Wednesday' here.

For the keenest tennis-playing students the action then heads south again for the fourth university tennis tour event which will be hosted by the University of East London. The competition will be played at the Connaught Club, Essex, from 22nd-23rd March. Entries for the competition will close on 15th March, find out further details here.
