After finishing runner-up on three previous occasions, Ivor Jess finally claimed victory on Sunday at the 8th Irish Wheelchair Tennis Open Championships at David Lloyd Riverview in Dublin.

As players from all over Ireland came together, Garreth Greene beat Jonathan Hayes in straight sets in his opening match and after two rounds he progressed to the final to meet Jess in the A Division singles final.

Jess comfortably clinched the opening set in the final before Greene fought back to force a championships tie-break, but ultimately Jess held on for a 6-4, 4-6, (10-2) victory.

Gary Craig and Stephen Melvin also advanced to the B Division singles final, with Melvin proving stronger to win the event 6-1, 6-4.

Greene and Griffith joined forces to win the A Division doubles, claiming a hard-won 6-4, 6-3 victory over Pat O’Neill and Ivor Jess in the final.

Meanwhile, Melvin and Craig paired up to win the B Division doubles, defeating Mark Barry and Hayes 6-2, 6-3.
