Ian Payne will be hoping for a new career best ranking after finishing runner-up in the quad singles at the Austrian Open.

In his first main draw singles final on the NEC Tour 16-year-old Payne found the vast experience of Italian Antonio Raffaele to be the major difference as Raffaele went on to claim the title 2-2, 6-2.

Sixteen year-old Ian Payne has reached his first ITF 2 Series final on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour at the Austrian Open in Gross Siegharts.

Payne beat second seed Sebastien Jance of France in Thursday's quarter-finals 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and went on to defeat Russia's Konstantin Donskoy 6-2, 6-2 in today's semi-finals. Payne will meet Italian top seed Antonio Raffaele in the final over the weekend.

Ian Payne secured the biggest win of his career to date as the quad singles got underway on the second day of the Austrian Open.

Payne beat second seed Sebastien Jance of France 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and will now play Russia’s Konstantin Donskoy in the semi-finals as he bids to reach his first main draw singles final on the NEC Tour.

After reaching the second ITF 1 Series quad singles quarter-final of his career at the Salzburg Open Payne has climbed nine places in this week’s world rankings and is not just three places short of his career best at No. 38, a mark he could better with another good performance in Gross Siegharts.
