Dan Evans claimed the runner up spot at the Comerica Bank Challenger in California. After defeating top seed world No.76 Guido Pella, 7-5, 6-1 on his run to the final, Evans eventually fell to American Bradley Klahn 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

Taking over from James Ward as British No.2, Evans rises 25 places up the ATP rankings to 169.

After a win over Jimmy Wang, Evans is into the quarter-finals of the singles event in California where he will now take on top seeded world No.76 Guido Pella.

The pair have met once before on the grass courts of The Queen’s Club during the Aegon Championships, where Evans was the victor.

Dan Evans has overcome American Mitchell Krueger 6-1, 6-2 to set up a second round meeting with eighth seed Jimmy Wang. Meanwhile James Ward missed out in three sets in the opening round.

Dan Evans has received a special exempt position into the Comerica Bank Challenger after finishing as the runner-up in Vancouver. Evans plays American Mitchell Krueger in round one.

James Ward is also in action playing Wayne Odesnik.
