Gordon Reid
10/01/13

Gordon Reid completed a highly successful start to the year after adding the men's singles title to the men's doubles title he had already won in Adelaide.

Having reached the singles final without dropping a game, after 6-0, 6-0 wins in both his quarter-final and semi-final, the British No. 1 and top seed faced Australian Adam Kellerman, having beaten Kellerman in the quarter-finals in Adelaide in both 2010 and 2012.

Reid extended his head-to-head record against Kellerman to five straight sets wins without reply after earning a 6-2, 6-3 win in the final to secure the seventh ITF 2 Series title of his career.

"I'm very happy to get the two titles under my belt this week and pleased to begin the 2013 season in a positive way," said Reid, who will now contest the first Super Series tournament of the year, the Sydney International. "It was important to get some matches played outdoors in the heat after a long indoor stint over the winter, so I'm happy with the preparation this week before Sydney.

"I'm really looking forward to getting started in Sydney, where I know the competition will be tougher and I will have to raise my game. I'm also looking forward to a couple more tournaments playing doubles with Maikel Scheffers from the Netherlands. We are still unbeaten going in to Sydney and Melbourne, so I'm excited for the test of trying to remain unbeaten."

After a landmark season in 2012, during which he reached the men's singles quarter-finals at the London 2012 Paralympic Games and became only the second Briton to obtain a world top 10 men's singles ranking, Gordon Reid becomes the first Brit to compete on the 2013 NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour.

British No. 1 and world No. 9 Reid will fly the flag in the men's singles and doubles as he returns to Adelaide after reaching the men's single semi-finals at the corresponding tournament in both 2010 and 2012. He also partnered fellow Brit Marc McCarroll to win the men's doubles in Adelaide in 2012 before reaching the doubles semi-finals last season.
