Paul Stewart was a singles semi-finalist in Birrhard, while Dermot Bailey made the men's singles quarter-finals as well as bowing of the men's doubles at the quarter-final stage partnering Stewart.

Fourth seed Stewart opened his singles challenge with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win over the experienced Thomas Suter and then beat his second Swiss opponent, Christophe Vouillamoz, 6-2, 6-0 in the quarter-finals before bowing out to top seed Daniel Pellegrina by the same score.

Bailey also made a good start, defeating Switzerland's Raphael Gremion 6-2, 7-6, but Austria's Jozef Riegler ended Bailey's progress in the last eight with a 6-4 6-2 win over the Brit before going on to claim the title at the weekend.

Bailey and Stewart saw their doubles challenge end in the quarter-finals after a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Riegler and his fellow Austrian Thomas Flax, the eventual runners-up.

Dermot Bailey and Paul Stewart fly the flag for Britain at the Birrhard Open as they return to Switzerland two weeks on from finishing runners-up in the men's doubles at the Martigny Indoor.

Bailey also reached the men's singles final at the Martigny Indoor last month and subsequently reached a career high men's singles and doubles ranking, while Stewart moved to a career high men's doubles ranking.

They will be looking to achieve similar success this week, with Bailey on the verge of joining Stewart in the top 70 of the men's singles world rankings.
