Alex Ward missed out in round one of the Mercedes Cup, an ATP 250 event. Ward, who qualified for the main draw, was defeated by fifth seeded Italian Fabio Fognini 6-3, 7-6(5).
Meanwhile in the doubles Jamie Murray & John Peers lost out in the opening round.
