Jordanne Whiley

British interest in the Daegu Open came to an end on the penultimate day of play after Jordanne Whiley finished runner-up in the women's singles and Whiley and Louise Hunt bowed out in the women's double semi-finals.

Second seed Whiley narrowly missed out on her second ITF 1 Series title in successive weeks after a 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 loss to Japanese top seed Yui Kamiji.

Whiley and Hunt were also second seeds for the women's doubles, but after a deciding championship tiebreak they saw their title chances come to an end in the last four after being beaten 2-6, 6-4, (10-8) by Malaysia's Faizatul Ahya Abdullah Thani and Thailand's Ratana Techamaneewat.

Jordanne Whiley will bid for a second successive ITF 1 Series singles title in as many weeks after a comfortable 6-2, 6-2 win over Japanese fourth seed Kanako Domori in her semi-final in Daegu.

World No. 8 and second seed Whiley now faces a rematch of last week's Korea Open final against top seed and world No. 7 Yui Kamiji, having beaten Kamiji 6-4, 6-4 in Seoul last week.

With Louise Hunt and Jordanne Whiley playing their second IT 1 Series tournament in Korea in successive weeks, British No. 3 Hunt set up an all-British women's singles quarter-final after beating Korea's Myung–Hee Hwang 6-3, 6-4 on the opening day's play.

However, after a first round bye, second seed Whiley ended Hunt's singles challenge 7-5, 6-2 and Whiley goes on to face Japanese fourth seed Kanako Domori in the semi-finals as the British No. 2 continues her quest to follow up her victory at last week's Korea Open.

Whiley is again draw to meet Japanese top see Yui Kamiji in the final, should both players be able to progress through their upcoming semi-finals matches.

Hunt and Whiley are second seeds for the women's doubles and have a bye into the semi-finals.
