Juan Martin Del Potro has overcome Britain's Andy Murray to reach the semi-finals of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells.

The Argentine faced just two break points and did not drop serve once as he won 6-7, (5-7) 6-3, 6-1.

Del Potro now faces Novak Djokovic in the last four after the top seed defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-1 in under an hour.

"It was a tough match,'' Murray said. "He played like someone that's won a lot of matches recently. Especially in the second and third set when the important moments came, he played well."

Murray, the number three seed, went into the contest with a 5-1 lead in matches against Del Potro but was unable to overcome his big-serving opponent in 35 degree height in California.

"It was a tough match. There was a lot of long rallies," he said. "It's very warm conditions the first set or two, and sometimes on the serve if your legs are just a little bit tired you can miss serves. Just timing might go a little bit off and you're not quite getting up to them. That's maybe what happened."

Del Potro first set reverse was the first he'd lost all week but he recovered well to improve upon a run that has seen him reach at least the quarter-finals in four of five events this year.

British No.1 Andy Murray has reached the quarter-finals in Indian Wells with a 7-6(4), 6-4 win against Argentina's Carlos Berlocq.

World No.3 Murray will meet Juan Martin Del Potro in the final eight on Friday.

Meanwhile in the doubles Colin Fleming and Paul Hanley of Australia reached the quarter-finals after a 6-3, 6-2 win over SpaniardsPablo Andujar & Daniel Gimeno-Traver. They played Alexander Peya & Bruno Soares in the final eight missing out 6-3, 4-6, 10-5.

Andy Murray advanced into the fourth round of Indian Wells after a straight sets win over world No.79 Yen-Hsun Lu.

British No.1 Murray defeated the Chinese Taipei 6-3, 6-2 in just under one and a half hours to book a meeting with Argentina's Carlos Berlocq.

Meanwhile in the doubles Colin Fleming and Paul Hanley of Australia are into the quarter-finals after a 6-3, 6-2 win over Spaniards Pablo Andujar & Daniel Gimeno-Traver. They play Alexander Peya & Bruno Soares next.

Andy Murray defeated Evgeny Donskoy 5-,7 6-2, 6-2 to reach the third round of Indian Wells third round. After two hours and 17 minutes the British No.1 recovered from a set down to seal a third round encounter with world No.79 Yen-Hsun Lu.

Murray was also in action in the men’s doubles with brother Jamie. The duo faced fifth seeds Robert Lindstedt & Nenad Zimonjic in the opening round winning 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 before missing out to Treat Huey & Jerzy Janowicz in the second round. Meanwhile fellow Briton Colin Fleming has teamed up with Paul Hanley of Australia and the duo are through to the second round

British No.1 Andy Murray is in action at the men's ATP 1000 event in Indian Wells. Murray, the 2009 runner-up, will face either Evgeny Donskoy of Russia or Japan’s Tatsuma Ito having received a bye into round two.

Murray is also in action in the men’s doubles with brother Jamie and face fifth seeds Robert Lindstedt & Nenad Zimonjic in the opening round. Meanwhile fellow Briton Colin Fleming has teamed up with Paul Hanley of Australia.

Meanwhile Heather Watson and Laura Robson, who were in round one singles action, missed out to Irina-Camelia Begu and Sweden's Sofia Arvidsson respectively.

In the women's doubles, Watson and New Zealand partner Marina Erakovic progressed into the second round after a straight sets win over Raquel Kops-Jones & Abigail Spears. They faced Janette Husarova & Hao-Ching Chan for a place in the quarter-finals but were defeated in three sets.

British No.1 Andy Murray is in action at the men's ATP 1000 event in Indian Wells. Murray, the 2009 runner-up, competes at his first event since finishing runner-up at the Australian Open. Other top names in the draw include world No.1 Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Tomas Berdych.

In the women's singles Heather Watson and Laura Robson are in round one of the main draw playing Irina Camelia-Begu and Sofia Arvidsson respectively.
