Lauren Jones
12/05/13

Lauren Jones completed her last tournament before the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in tremendous form, winning her first senior women's singles title on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour and also retaining the women's doubles title in Antalya.

Third seed Jones beat Russian fourth seed Polina Shakirova 7-6(6), 6-2 to improve on her semi-final berth in Antalya in 2012 and go one better than when finishing runner-up in the Sheffield Wheelchair Tennis Tournament in March.

After partnering Frenchwoman Arlette Racineux to win the women's doubles last year, Jones partnered Turkey's Busra Un to claim the title this year as they justified their top seeding to beat second seeds Olena Shyngaryova of Ukraine and Julide Yildiz of Turkey 7-6(5), 6-0. It was Jones's seventh women's doubles title of her career and her fourth with Un in five tournaments.

Lauren Jones put in a fine performance to reach the women's singles final on the third day of play in Antalya , while also reaching the women's doubles final for the second successive year.

Third seed Jones secured her first win in six career matches against Turkey's No. 1 and top seed Busra Un 6-1 6-3, avenging her three set loss to Un in the semi-finals of last year's ITF Futures Series tournament. Jones will now play Russian fourth seed Polina Shackirova for the title.

After winning the women's doubles in 2012, with Un on the opposite side of the net, Jones partnered Un to this year's title decider after the top seeds beat Turkey's Nese Aydemir and Ebru Bulgurcu 6-1, 4-6, (10-6) after a match tie-break in their semi-final. Jones and Un face Olena Shyngaryova of Ukraine and Julide Yildiz of Turkey in the final.

However, Ed Holt and Paul Stewart saw their men's doubles challenge come to an end after the British third seeds bowed out in the semi-finals, slipping to a 6-2, 6-1 loss to Austria's Nicolas Langmann and Sweden's Dan Wallin.

Jones and Un are top seeds for the women's doubles and after a first round bye they will face Turkish duo Nese Aydemir and Ebru Bulgurcu in the semi-finals over the weekend.

However, Jones saw her junior girls' singles title challenge dented when she was beaten 6-2, 6-3 by Russia's Viktoria Lvova.

In the men's doubles, third seeds Holt and Stewart eased to a 6-0 6-1 win over Turan Akalin of Turkey and Ciprian Anton of Romania in their quarter-final. The Brits will now face the second seeded partnership of Sweden's Dan Wallin and Nicolas Langmann of Austria for a place in the final.

But Holt saw his men's singles challenge come to an end after a 6-3, 6-3 quarter-final loss to Morocco's Ayoub Ettali. Stewart also bowed out of the men's consolation singles, beaten 6-0, 6-4 by Iran's Mohammad Raza Yaghoubi.
