After winning the second draw singles at the Belfast tournament during the 2012 Development Series and finishing runner-up in the B Division singles in Edinburgh earlier this year, Lancashire's Shahzad Afzal took maximum points from the first Tennis Foundation Development Series event to be staged at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds after remaining unbeaten in his four round-robin matches.
Afzal won his three matches against Helen Bond, Val Fisher and Sarah Gaisford for the loss of just two games, while his toughest match of the weekend, against Dave Berridge, ended in a 6-4 victory.
Berridge ended up taking third place after a 6-0 loss to Val Fisher, a semi-finalist in the Shrewsbury tournament in 2012.
Fisher gained runners-up honours after winning three of her matches 6-0, with her only loss coming in a 6-1 defeat by Afzal.
Helen Bond, the winner of the women's event in the 2012 Development Series, finished in fourth in Leeds after a 6-1 win over Sarah Gaisford, the winner of the women's singles at last year's Plymouth Wheelchair Tennis Tournament.
