Laura Robson and Johanna Konta were defeated in the quarter-finals of the Guangzhou Open. Robson missed out to Jie Zheng 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-2, while Konta was beaten 7-5, 6-3 by Shuai Zhang.

Laura Robson and Johanna Konta are into the quarter-finals of the women's singles in China. Robson, the third seed, plays Jie Zheng in the final eight, while qualifier Konta, is up against Shuai Zhang.

Robson and Konta both won their round one singles matches in straight sets in China.

Laura Robson returns to the Guangzhou Open where she made history 12 months ago, becoming the first British woman through to a singles WTA final in 22 years. In the final Robson fell to Li Na and this year Robson will be looking to go one further as she plays Jovana Jaksic in round one.
Meanwhile Jo Konta, who qualified for the main draw, defeated Richel Hogenkamp 6-3, 6-2 to reach the second round.
