Andy Murray defeats Andrey Kuznetsov in US Open

Andy Murray defeated Russian Andrey Kuznetsov in the third round to reach the second week of the 2014 US Open.

Murray, who will face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the fourth round, began superbly to race into a two set lead before dropping the third set. The British player was not to be denied as he dominated the fourth set to take the match 6-1, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.

Speaking after the match, Murray said: "The first couple of sets were pretty good, and then I started a bit slow in the beginning of the third.

"He gained confidence from that and he definitely started hitting the ball better in the third set. It was a tricky match but I came through well."

Mixed doubles

Ross Hutchins & Yung-Jan Chan moved into the third round of the mixed doubles after a 6-2, 2-6, 13-11 victory over American duo Oudin & Ram.

Jamie Murray & Casey Dellacqua fell in the second round to No.1 seeds Mirza & Soares 6-2, 7-6(8).

Freya Christie and Maia Lumsden reached the girls' singles main draw after defeating Van Zyl and Cao respectively. Christie and Lumsden join Katie Boulter, Katie Swan, Isabelle Wallace and Gabriella Taylor in the main draw.
