Jill Newby, organiser of the Great Missenden Junior Tournament, has just returned from Australia where she represented Great Britain in the Real Tennis Over 60 MENS team - and they won! Congratulations Jill!
Jill travelled to Melbourne to compete for the GB Men’s team in the Boswick cup (over 60’s) event against Australia, where they had to get special permission for her to play in the Men’s event.
The format is very like playing at county week, where you don’t know who you will play with until the night before the match and even then you are not 100% sure until the morning of the match..
Partnering Jamie Bebb as the third doubles pair they won their match 6/1, 6/1 and the team went on to take the trophy with a 3-2 victory.
Also from Bucks and playing in Melbourne was Tony Crook who competed in the successful Danby team. . Tony and Jill both play Real Tennis at Holyport TRC (2 miles outside of Maidenhead).
