Last week eighty juniors aged between four and fourteen enjoyed one of the first of this summer’s Tennis Works Tennis Camps, held at Shenley Brook End School.
Coaches organised a variety of games, drills and matches which were designed to improve technique, movement around the court and match tactics. The activities catered for all standards and culminated in a tournament, which after some hard fought and exciting matches saw prizes go to Daniel Seelam who won the mini tennis singles tournament and Oliver Wolfe who came in a close second.
In the junior’s Jack Bebbinton won the top prize taking the title of champion after beating Braxton Kettle by one point in one of the events closest matches. Also picking up prizes were Adam Cross and Emanuela Motta who were awarded the prize for effort, and the most improved player award went to Alistair Milne.
At Woughton Leisure Centre 14 children from the Grove Independent School also enjoyed a week of Tennis Works fun, whilst Anglophiles also brought a group of 30 teenage students from Paris who is on an educational trip. Kids Play further benefited from Tennis Works coaching with a session for 30 of their children at Loughton Middle School, as this the second year in a row the organisations have worked together.
A total of 154 individual people received tennis from Tennis Works last week, which further increases the base of grass roots tennis in MK. Head Coach, John Cavill, said, “After a very hectic and productive week, we are very pleased with the interest we are attracting. We hope to retain as many people as possible in our weekly coaching programmes, so they can continue to progress. We’ve got a few more busy weeks ahead of us but are really enjoying the on court sessions.”
