Aylesbury Vale Open Day

Wimbledon champions of the future could come from Aylesbury, thanks to a joint initiative aimed at encouraging more people to take up tennis.

Aylesbury Vale District Council and Aylesbury Tennis Club have joined forces to offer tennis coaching in the town’s Vale Park.

Taking place from 14 May, professional coaches Nigel Little and Sue Dunn will be running weekly sessions including Mums and Tots, over 50s and Cardio Tennis at affordable rates with no membership fees.

The sessions are open to anyone of any age or playing ability. Equipment is provided for the sessions should those without rackets wish to take part.

The programme launched on 12 May with a free open day at the courts in Vale Park. Councillor Jenny Puddefoot, Mayor of Aylesbury, and Councillor Barbara Russell opened the event.

The AVDC tennis courts have been awarded Lawn Tennis Association Beacon Status and join the AEGON Parks Tennis programme. Beacon status is awarded to sites that demonstrate a real commitment to making tennis more accessible and affordable in their local communities to people of all ages and abilities.
