Caesarean LTC Parent & Child Sponge Ball Tournament a great success

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

"Unseasonally warm" (the Meteorological Office will not allow the use of the word "hot" too early in the year) weather enabled the inaugural BNP Paribas Parent & Child Sponge Ball Tournament at the Caesarean to move outside for the afternoon.

The 15 pairs were divided in to three groups of five with each of the groups closely contested between the top three in each. Even those who were out of the running for honours ran the prize winners close.

On court 1 Ian & Rory Lambert emerged as the only unbeaten team of the day but they only defeated Natasha & Katia Borman 12-11 and had that last point gone the other way then the Borman's would have moved from 3rd to 1st.

Stuart and Adam Gower eventually finished runners-up with three wins out of four as they also narrowly beat the Borman's.

On court 2 the calculators were needed after a triple tie on match wins with all the top three having beaten each other. Eventually it transpired Jane & Oliver Flemmer edged out Bettina & Blake Macrae by a single point with Chris & Richard Hare third.

It was a similar story on court 3 with another triple tie as the top three again beat one another. This time the Macrae's, Robert & Rory, had enough points to prevail over Lucy & Tom Carpenter and Lucy & Matthew Shuttleworth.

An enjoyable time was had by all with many asking "when are you going to do another one?"
