The club was blessed with glorious weather for the 2013 Charity tennis-athon in aid of Action for Children over the 12th/13th and the Open Day on Saturday 13th July. The tennis-athon started at 6pm on Friday 12th with Action for Children's Alysha Lawlor hitting the first serve.
The first four players were Robert Hough , Stuart Warburton , Rich McCarthy and Ivan Davies. Play continued throughout the night with players battling their tiredness throughout the night and the heat during the day. The final four players were Val Sims , Martin Wilson , John Field and Margaret Bamford.
The Open Day ran from 10-6 on the Saturday and saw a large number of visitors and potential new members - juniors and adults, It was also a pleasure to see a number of ex members back down at the club. There were free coaching sessions , games or the younger children , a cardio tennis class and a clothing sale from Rosebank Sports.
The day was rounded off with the attendance of town mayor George Hayes who took part in two sets of tennis and Fiona Bruce MP who helped bring proceedings to a close by drawing the raffle.
Thanks to all those who helped in anyway to make the day a success including my fellow organisers Kirsty Woodward , June Bowyer and Clive Young , volunteer coaches Mark Wakefield , Mike Massey , James Edmondson , Ivan Davies and Claire Crafter , John Nunn for providing the audio equipment , Rich McCarthy together with Gill and Martin from Action for Children for organising the BBQ , all those who donated raffle prizes or made cakes and those who served refreshments or manned the bar during the day
