Road to Wimbledon 2014 - Schools

Friday, December 13, 2013

The Road to Wimbledon is one of the largest junior competitions in British Tennis and provides the opportunity for your players to earn the chance to compete at Wimbledon.

Some key points for you about the schools format:

  • Year 7, 8 & 9 separate events for girls and boys
  • Players don’t need to have a rating as this was seen as a barrier, if players do have a rating it should be a maximum of 7.1
  • Schools can only enter online via www.lta.org.uk/roadtowimbledon and its FREE for schools!
  • Schools need to run an internal singles knockout tournament at the start of the summer term (June and July)
  • Schools need a minimum of 5 players and each match is one set, e.g. 6-4.
  • Schools will receive a bespoke organisers pack
  • Schools will need to provide us with the winners details and draw size via an online form after their event

Some benefits to the school to help with your conversations:

  • Provides a focus to a schools tennis programme/lessons
  • Offers competitive singles matches in an enjoyable atmosphere
  • Offers players the chance to represent their school at county final
  • Opportunity for your players to potentially earn the chance to compete at Wimbledon
  • Appropriate matches as the higher rated players compete in a separate event
  • Easy to run due to quick format, organiser guide including certificates and online schools entry
