Cheshire County LTA Charity Doubles event is a success

Thursday, March 07, 2013

More than 50 players from 16 different clubs gathered at DL Cheshire Oaks on Saturday 23 February to play tennis for charity.

Each player nominated one of five chosen charities and every game they won earned a donation from the total of £665 raised.

The final was won by Alan Grundy (Hoole) and Barbara Bloor (Heswall) with Gabriel Izquierdo (Upton-by-Chester) and Laurie Williams (DL Cheshire Oaks) the runners-up.

Clear “winner” on the day was Clatterbridge Oncology but thanks to the energy and generosity, of the players and helpers, Age UK, Barnardos, St Lukes Hospice and our own Youth Trust all benefited.

CCLTA President Barbara Newnes not only presented the prizes but waited nervously to be called into play as the first reserve.

A very big “thank you” to Annie Doyle (Marketing committee) and John Hilton (Competitions and Tournaments commitee) for all their hard work and the players for their generous and enthusiastic support.
