The match Sanchez v Spencer will be hosted by Pownall Park Tennis Club on Saturday 26th April as part of the annual open day activities which run from 12 til 4pm. The showcase event is the brainchild of newly appointed head coach Phil Spencer who worked alongside Spain's championship player Roberto Romero Sanchez whilst at the famous La Manga Tennis Club in Spain.
Phil comments "I want to bring the excitement of Wimbledon to local club level and inspire youngsters who are keen to get involved in tennis. The match will be tough but I hope it will showcase tennis at a great standard for everyone to enjoy. Anyone is welcome to come and watch! The event is a great way for us to open our doors to the wider community to see if they want to get involved in tennis at any level. There will be lots going on whether it be to dust down your rusty racket and join in a game or simply sit and enjoy the nail biting experience of Sanchez v Spencer with a cup of tea."
Phil Spencer is a tennis coach with international experience having been based in Manchester, Singapore, Australia and Spain. He is currently accredited by the British Lawn Tennis Association holding a level 4 Senior Performance Coach qualification.
Phil's opponent Roberto Romero Sanchez was a championship player and ranked #15 in Spain, he has played at the very highest level throughout his tennis career.
