The third Great British Tennis Weekend takes place on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June. The LTA predicts 2014 will be Britain's biggest ever free summer of tennis. By the end of this weekend, over 10,000 people expected to have hit their local court for a free game
With tennis fever sweeping the nation as we approach mid-way point in The Championships, Wimbledon, people across Cheshire will grab the opportunity to pick up a racket this weekend, as the third Great British Tennis Weekend smashes into town.
By the end of the weekend, the LTA expects to have seen over 10,000 people get inspired by Wimbledon fever and head down to their local courts, serving over 100,000 balls and playing over 20,000 games.
Over the weekend, residents in Cheshire will take part in Cardio Tennis, Mini Tennis, disability tennis and tennis coaching. Venues will provide rackets and balls, enabling those that attend and have never tried playing tennis before to get involved straight away and not be limited by their ability, age or experience – all part of the LTA's drive to get more people playing more often.
TV presenter Helen Skelton commented: "Having been fortunate enough to soak up the Wimbledon atmosphere on a number of occasions, I'm really excited about Great British Tennis Weekends hitting the country. Tennis is such a fun game that all the family can enjoy together, I love the idea of mums and dads getting out there with their kids at the weekends! With Cardio Tennis, Mini Tennis, disability tennis and tennis coaching available at a host of local venues and for free, as well as rackets and balls, absolutely anyone can get involved. I'll be picking up my racket and getting out there myself as we get ready for the biggest ever summer of tennis and get behind the British tennis stars."
The final Great British Tennis Weekend will take place in July (Saturday 19th – Sunday 20th).
Families can book in advance online and find out more information about local venues at www.greatbritishtennisweekend.com.
