Double Celebration as BOTH Cheshire Teams Win Promotion!
There was something special in the air at the weekend! As well as the victory in Ghent, there was an incredible achievement for Cheshire as both the Men’s and Ladies County Cup teams won promotion from Group 3a.
The men were in Southampton and a very young ladies team had travelled to Gloucester – 5 of the team were under 18! Neither team had an easy tournament, suffering injuries, losing crucial sets and enduring closely fought tie-breaks. Liz Sweeting, Ladies Captain said “Both groups were really close and it was a massive team effort from everyone.” She added “The tension was on a par with that in the Davis Cup! I was watching 4 matches simultaneously!”. John Hilton, Men’s Captain also praised his team saying “All eight Cheshire players contributed to what was a series of very impressive performances over the course of the three days, and they thoroughly deserved to return to Group 2 as CHAMPIONS.”
