The finals of the Senior Cheshire Shield events were held at Hooton tennis club on Sunday July 23rd. After torrential rain in the morning we were lucky to have a lovely sunny afternoon.
In the Ladies final Bramhall Lane played Nantwich for the third year in succession. After the first round the score was level at 1-1. In the second round the Nantwich first pair won in two sets and after a long battle the Nantwich second pair won a set so winning the match.
Bramhall Lane – K Dodd, D McKeever, J Thistleton (captain) and F Walker
Nantwich – C Harrison, S Everitt, S Winters (captain) and A Bate
In the Mens event Hale played Hartford. Again after the first round the score was 1-1. Hale then won both the second round rubbers to win the match 3-1.

Hartford – J Pidcock, P Makin (captain), J Barlow and K Wright
Roger Hughes, representing Cheshire LTA, thanked Hooton tennis club for hosting the finals and Sue and Kevin Thompson for all their hard work and the lovely tea they provided. He also thanked Linda Simpson for again running the competition. He then presented the Shields to the winning teams.
Seniors Plate Finals
The finals were played on Sunday 23rd July at Prestbury Tennis Club with the weather remaining dry and warm all afternoon.
Bowdon won the ladies final against Bramhall Queensgate by 4 rubbers to 0. The result belies the closeness of the match, which had 5 of the sets going to a third set tiebreak.
Bowdon - C Dive K Keohane S Hassel (captain) and N Paddon
Bramhall Queensgate - G Duncan (captain) L Pickford M Southern and R Shepard
Ryecroft won the men's final against Lane by 3 rubbers to 1. Again a very close fought contest by both teams.

Ryecroft - Paul Owens (captain) Dexter Hare Dave Banks and Jason Crick
Judy Grant, Prestbury Club Chairman, came along and welcomed the players and took photos of the presentation.
Rob Forster, President of Cheshire LTA, organised the finals on behalf of Linda Simpson. He thanked Feng and the catering team of Frances, Mandy and Sue and Prestbury LTC for hosting the event before presenting the Shields to the winning teams.
